Dr. Sullivan Recognized for Bridge Clinic

The Upstate Emergency Bridge Clinic is an innovative Emergency Medicine driven approach to aiding the fight against opioid use disorder. Traditionally, opioid use disorder patients, and most other substance users, are seen and evaluated in the emergency department. Once deemed stable, they are discharged Dr. Sullivan at SAEMwithout a follow-up to address their opioid use disorder. At the most, they are provided with a list of treatment centers to call. This practice has proved ineffectual.

Ross Sullivan created a Bridge Clinic where, until community based care is available, intervention is handled immediately. Dr. Sullivan recently received a recognition from the chair of the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine as a "hero of emergency medicine."
