Bachelor of Science Degree
at Upstate

The program accepts 20 students each year.

At the time of application, students select their first and second career track choices from among Radiography, Radiography/CT and Radiography/MR.

Graduates are eligible to take the national certification examination in radiography, given by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, and qualify for licensure to practice in New York state.

Bachelor of Professional Studies Degree

This program is for students with an associate’s degree in medical imaging or medical radiography who would like to pursue specialty education in CT, MRI, or Ultrasound.

The program prepares radiographers to practice as career entry CT, MRI, or Ultrasound technologists.

A bachelor of professional studies degree will be awarded as BPS Medical Imaging (CT), BPS Medical Imaging (MRI), or BPS Diagnostic Medical Sonography (Ultrasound).

All graduates will be eligible to apply for certification in their discipline through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.

About this Career

Our medical imaging sciences program educates students in the use of sophisticated equipment and procedures to:

  • Produce radiographic images (x-rays)
  • Computed tomography scans (CTs)
  • Magnetic resonance images (MRIs)
  • Diagnostic Medical
    Sonography
    (Ultrasound)
  • Other diagnostic exams

Medical Imaging Science professionals use a variety of complex technologies and computer applications to provide physicians with information for the diagnosis and treatment of disease.

These professionals have a high level of patient contact in which the use of interpersonal skills is critical. Furthermore, they have the opportunity to work in hospitals, clinics, physician’s offices, imaging centers, and industry. Moreover, leadership roles as supervisors, administrators, educators, and researchers provide avenues for career development.
