She always explains things very well

Dr Sakonju didn't follow through on testing she said at the last appointment months ago that she would order at this latest appointment. She is giving my son medicine for a specific muscle disease, but she won't order a test that may diagnose it. She said that sometimes children take advantage of a muscle diagnoses. This particular one effects breathing so without a diagnosis he could potentially end up in a crisis and dr's wouldn't have the advantage of knowing how to help him because she is stalling on testing.

I leaned a lot from this doctor

Would recommend for standard concerns, but our child is complex and Upstate has been awful with care. This physician is good. Very compassionate and intelligent, but cannot complete all the necessary testing.

We disagree about a medication my son is taking. In talking with her. If she were to do the MRI and Spinal Tap that was due 6 month ago then we would not be having this discussion. She knows that reducing the medication causes my son to struggle and have head control issues but yet she continues to push me to take him off the medication. I disagreed with her 3 times and on the 4th I just gave up and basically said whatever. She knows I am very hesitant and I asked her clearly if she did the Spinal Tap would she gain the same information she was seeking from taking him off the medication which is to his determent and she said yes. I asked her are you going to do the spinal tap either way and she said yes. So I guess to me what is the question just do the darn spinal tap an figure out that way rather than messing with my son's medication. Until she has conclusive evidence to do so.

Dr. Sakanju has been AMAZING. We've seen her twice in person and once via tele-med last summer due to the pandemic. She's always been reception helpful comforting and has never talked above us or down to us. My daughter has mentioned every time after we leave that she enjoys seeing Dr. Sakanju and I (as a parent) respect that she listens to my concerns as well as my teen's. She's a fantastic doctor.

The Dr was so thorough and kind. My son was so relaxed which he never is!!!
April 6, 2021
The doctor is just as concerned about my daughter as I am. She may not have all the answers but my daughter is complex and I don't expect her to have every answer. But I see her make the effort to continue care and involve others as needed to properly care for my child

everything was good
January 12, 2021
yes I would highly recommend this care provider to others
October 11, 2020
I think she is a good doctor, but the visit should have been in person. It's hard to assess a two year old over the phone. So we will have a real appointment in a month with her. This virtual appointment was a waste of time.

I've already recommended Dr. Sakonju to friends who've needed a neurologist. Dr Sakonju understands that my daughter is an unusual case and has contacted me about my concerns. She has mentioned how well I've done as a parent advocating and researching and taking care of my daughter despite not having a medical degree. she has truly given me the respect as a pant and complimented me on how well I've paid attention to my child and realizes that I do know her best.

Highly recommend. We didn't feel rushed, and appreciated the very thorough exam.
