Whether you're considering a career in medicine and want to explore different healthcare specialties, or you are considering Upstate as an option of education or employment our program will provide you with a valuable experience. You must be 16 or older, except for placement in the OR, Emergency Department, Cancer Center Infusion, Psychiatry and OB/GYN: where minimum age of 18 is required.

Minors (under the age of 18) are only permitted to shadow during daytime hours from 8:00 am to 9:00 pm.

Shadowing is not allowed during night shift.

Shadowing is typically a one-day experience; one day of shadowing can consist of only a few hours or an all-day (8 hours) experience.

One shadow experience per year, up to three days, in one department.

Participant will only observe, without any hands-on interaction with a patient, medical equipment, medical records, computers, and will not enter an area of contamination such as isolation rooms, soiled linen areas, etc.
