Minimum Computer Requirements

College of Health Professions, College of Medicine, College of Graduate Studies, and College of Nursing

Some academic programs, including the College of Medicine, require students to own a computer.

Please check with your respective program of study to confirm. 

Any computer intended for use while at Upstate should meet or exceed the following recommended specifications.

A Windows Laptop with at least a 2.4 GHz processor with 8Gb of RAM, 160Gb hard drive, wireless network ability and at least 13 inch screen. Windows 10 version 22H2 or higher, or Windows 11 21H2 or higher. 

A Macintosh Laptop with at least a 2.4 GHz processor with 8Gb of RAM, 160Gb hard drive, wireless network ability and at least 13 inch screen. OS-X 11.7.9 Operating System or higher.

All computers must have a webcam.

In most cases laptop computers less than 3 years old should meet the above minimum specifications with the possible exception of adequate RAM. It is recommended that consideration be given to upgrading the computer's RAM to 8 Gb.

Tablets (iPad or Surface) are not supported.

Chromebooks are not supported.

Students also need to have installed Microsoft Office on the laptops, this is provided by the University.

Upstate requires all students to run an up-to-date antivirus program on their computer, both Windows and Mac.
