In addition to 90 attending physicians, 40 residents and fellows, and 165 nurses, the children‘s hospital depends on assistance from volunteers, including:
2 volunteers who help to keep the washer/dryer, family waiting room and family sleeping rooms clean;
3 pet therapy volunteers (with their four-legged friends) who help to reduce stress and anxiety by visiting with patients;
11 Family Resource Center volunteers who provide resources and media rentals – and sometimes just a friendly ear – to patients‘ family and friends;
18 tutors who assist 2 teachers who help pediatric patients keep up with their schoolwork while they are hospitalized; and
35 child life volunteers in eight specialty areas of pediatrics who help provide a comforting environment for patients and visitors.
Children‘s hospital volunteers make a weekly commitment for extended periods of time. If you‘re interested, call Volunteer Services at 315-464-5180.
