Upstate Medical University presented 16 awards at its fall convocation Sept. 16. The SUNY Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Classified Service was given to Danielle Porter, RN. Below is her biography, as it appears in the convocation program.

By Stephanie DeJoseph

“Danielle Porter not only is a great employee, she shines in everything she does,” were the opening accolades of her nomination packet. She is known as “showing outstanding achievement with her nursing skills” and “proficiency at prioritizing her daily tasks.”

Always at work at least 15 minutes early, she is prepared to begin her day with her signature optimism. She takes her time in mentoring and coaching all who are “under her wing” while providing a welcoming environment. Supportive and nurturing, she is there to mend a patient‘s hurt feelings if the need arises.

When Ms. Porter was asked if she would mind switching from nights to days for four weeks due to unexpected circumstances, without hesitation she volunteered. Not only does she volunteer to pick up extra shifts, she also volunteers to float to avoid any staff complaint.

An enormous advocate for her patients, she goes above and beyond to find answers for any concerns they may have. While she is a huge asset to the 6th floor, a nominator said “it is her face that we should be honored to have representing Upstate.”
