Medical school's famous graduate is subject of NPR 'great read' children's book
A children‘s book starring Elizabeth Blackwell, MD -- an 1849 graduate of Geneva Medical College and America‘s first woman doctor -- has been selected as a “2013 Great Read,” National Public Radio's guide to exceptional books. “Who Says Women Can't Be Doctors?” is written by Tanya Lee Stone and illustrated by Marjorie Priceman. The book is geared for kindergarten through 3rd grade. A Book List starred review describes the book: “Women not able to be doctors? There‘s a crazy thought! Yet one woman had to be first. Stone and Priceman combine their considerable talents to tell the story of Elizabeth Blackwell, who fought the scorn, the sneers, and the barriers on her way to becoming a physician. ...
