24 students chosen for 6-week summer internships

Starting July 1, 24 college students from the city of Syracuse will begin their summer Synergy/Mercy Works internships at Upstate Medical University.

Starting July 1, 24 college students from the city of Syracuse will begin their summer Synergy/Mercy Works internships at Upstate Medical University.


Twenty-four students will intern at Upstate  for six weeks over the summer as part of the Synergy/Mercy Works summer internship program. They were welcomed to Upstate at a luncheon Wednesday at LeMoyne College, another sponsor of the program. This is the  seventh year that Upstate has partnered with Synergy/Mercy Works. The goal of the internship program is to nurture the next generation of health care professionals who will likely serve an increasing  diverse community.

Connor, a radiation safety officer at Upstate, says, Every medical center needs a medical physicist and a radiation safety officer. Part of the reason I am a mentor is to increase awareness of the field. These are invaluable careers that promise to have job openings in the future.
