EMS Medicine Fellowship one of first to receive accreditation
Upstate's EMS Medicine Fellowship received accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education in the first round of programs to be approved by its Residency Review Committee. Only 20 of the 62 programs in existence were granted accreditation in this cycle.
The Upstate program began in 2003 and was re-started in 2008 under the direction of Derek Cooney, MD. The program provides education in medical oversight, disaster preparedness, operational medical principles, and offers advanced field medical training with multiple emergency services, including many unique opportunities here and abroad. The program has trained a fellow every year since 2008. This year's fellow, Carl Beaudette, MD, will be one of the first fellows in the country to graduate from an accredited EMS Medicine fellowship program.
