Emergency physician speaks about dangers of heat

Factoring in the humidity, Thursday's temperature reached 96 degrees Fahrenheit at the National Weather Service station at Hancock International Airport, Syracuse. The Post-Standard reported that the record for June 21 was 98, set in 1953.


James Ciaccio MD, who directs adult emergency medical services at the Upstate Medical University at Community campus, gave interviews about the heat Wednesday that aired on Newschannel 9 WSYR and YNN.

June's heat is making headlines in Syracuse, as well as throughout the Northeastern United States. Ciaccio reminds us to stay hydrated with beverages that don't contain caffeine or alcohol -- and remain aware of the symptoms of heat illness.
