Healthy Monday will kick off National Public Health Week

Next week is Public Health Week, and Healthy Monday kicks things off with a lunchtime talk about "Nutrition as Prevention" by Lisa Thomas, a clinical dietitian at Syracuse University Health Services.

Monday's celebration begins with a free yoga class in room 500 of the Hall of Languages building on the SU campus from 10 to 10:45 a.m. That is followed by a mile walk or run. The free lunch and lecture takes place in the same room from noon to 1:30 p.m. It requires an RSVP to healthymonday@syr.edu

Upstate sponsors free lectures from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday through Friday:

Tuesday, "Exercise on the Fly" with Dale Avers, DPT, PhD, takes place in room 2508 of Setnor Hall. Avers is director of the Transitional Post-Professional DPT Program in the Department of Physical Therapy Education in the College of Health Professions.

Wednesday, Donna Bacchi MD, MPH, speaks about "Simple Tools for Healthy Eating" in room 3113 of Weiskotten Hall. She is the director of the CNYMPH program in the Department of Public Health and Preventive Medicine.

Thursday, Tony Riposo, director of Infinite Light Yoga, speaks about "Yoga as a Part of Healthy Living" in room 2508 of Setnor Hall.

Friday, Kaushal Nanavati MD speaks about "One Life, Two Choices -- Choose to be at Peace or Make the Other Choice." He will be in room 2508 of Setnor Hall.
