Ethics expert to speak about organs for transplant
Here's an event to put on your calendar:
One of the nation's foremost experts in ethics, Arthur L. Caplan PhD, will visit Upstate April 12 for a talk called "Are We Going Too Far to Get Organs for Transplant?" Caplan is the Emmanuel and Robert Hart Director of the Center for Bioethics and the Sydney D. Caplan Professor of Bioethics at the University of Pennsylvania.
Upstate's Center for Bioethics and Humanities sponsors Caplan's appearance, from 3 to 4 p.m. in Room 103 of Weiskotten Hall, 766 Irving Ave. His talk is free and open to the public.
If you want to prepare for the talk, Caplan wrote a summary for The Hastings Center about organ transplantation. He also added to the discussion last year of the New York bill that would have made people organ donors unless they specifically opted out.
