Upstate University Hospital chief executive officer John McCabe MD explained the name, "Upstate University Hospital at Community General" at the July 7 ceremony that made official the Upstate acquisition of Community.

The name captures the branding of Upstate and signals that the two hospitals are now one. Community General remains part of the name because, McCabe says, "we know it's important to recognize the long history here."
