Summer Teen Volunteer Program

The 2023 application is now closed.

Please check back in March of 2024 for the 2024 application and information.

Our Summer Teen Volunteer Program offers a unique opportunity for students to acquire valuable experience within a hospital setting. By participating, they can explore various careers in the healthcare field, foster essential skills for delivering exceptional customer service, and contribute to their community by assisting patients and visitors.

Requirements to apply:

  • Must be 15 years old by June 1, 2023
  • Attend a mandatory virtual orientation
  • Ability to commit to one 4-hour shift once a week, missing up to 2 shifts

Teens are required to volunteer for one, 4-hour shift per week. The program begins the 1st week of July and ends the 1st week of September. Volunteer shifts are Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 12:30 pm, or 12:30 pm – 4:30 pm.

We offer volunteer assignments at both the Upstate University Hospital (750 E. Adams St) and Upstate Community Hospital (4900 Broad Rd). Teens will have an opportunity to choose their location preference, however, we cannot guarantee placement at their first choice. We do not offer weekends or evenings. Summer vacation plans should be disclosed on the application.

Summer Teen Program Volunteer Opportunities:

Volunteers assist in a variety of areas throughout the hospital. All volunteer assistance is valuable, whether greeting or escorting patients and visitors, running errands for hospital staff, delivering patient items, or stocking supplies. Below are the current teen volunteer assignments we offer.

We emphasize independence and ask that the teen fill out their application and communicate with us. Parents and family, please know, we trust them in our hospital working independently, therefore we expect them to be the ones to communicate with us.

We do our best to match as many teens with as many volunteer positions as possible, but it is impossible to find a match for everyone due to the high number of applicants.

Please contact volunteer@upstate.edu or 315-464-5180 with any questions.
