Limb Preservation Symposium
The concept of Limb Preservation entails a multidisciplinary effort to create pathways for care, increase patient access to specialists, and decrease limb loss. Outcomes of a multidisciplinary team, whose goal is to prevent amputation during a 4-year period, have demonstrated an 82% reduction in major amputations. Furthermore, there was a 62% reduction in major amputations and a 40% decrease in all amputations during an 11-year period after a diabetic foot care service was started. We started the Upstate Limb Preservation Conference in 2022 with the goal of identifying gaps in care through a variety of presentations that will update the audience on the best methods that can be implemented in clinical practice at SUNY Upstate Medical University.
