Vascular Surgery is a specialty that focuses on the treatment of peripheral arterial and venous diseases. Surgeons are specialty trained in the diagnosis, medical management, critical care, surgical and endovascular techniques for the treatment of these conditions.
Vascular surgeons complete five years of general surgical training and an additional one to two years of fellowship training in vascular disease. Upstate's Team of Vascular Services provides care to patients throughout the greater Central New York area, here at University Hospital and through our many satellite offices.
Upstate Vascular Services also directs the University Hospital's Vascular Laboratory, an accredited vascular laboratory. The lab performs several noninvasive tests using ultrasound technology to help detect problems in arteries or veins. This technology is used to provide the physician with valuable information that will assist in planning treatment.
