In Memory of William H. Marx, DO
It is with profound sadness that we bid farewell to our dear friend and colleague, Dr. William H. Marx.
He was an integral part of the development of the trauma systems in New York and across the nation.
Dr. Marx was Professor of Surgery & Critical Care and Chief of the Division of Trauma & Acute Care surgery at Upstate Medical University.
He was especially proud of the outstanding team of trauma surgeons, nurses, surgical specialists and support staff he helped to develop during his tenure at Upstate over the past 30 years.
His legacy includes being the Chair of the New York State Trauma Advisory Committee from 2006-2022 and Chair of the Verification Review Committee of the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma.
He had a distinguished career in the US Army rising to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel while serving on active duty from 1978-1989 and reserve duty from 1989-2001. He was deployed during operation Desert Storm from 1991-1992.
He was an active member of the American College of Surgeons. In addition to being the Chair of the Verification Review Committee, he served on the Board of Governors, was the Past-President of the New York Chapter, served as the New York State Chair and was the Chief for Region 2.
He is deeply respected by the trauma community for his unwavering leadership, compassion and dedication to the care of trauma patients.
His life-work has helped to assure the optimal care of injured patients in years to come.
