Letter from the Dean of Student Affairs

Dear Upstate Medical University Students:

Welcome (or welcome back) to Upstate! This Student Handbook is designed to serve as a comprehensive guide to campus life, whether you are new to our community or returning as an experienced student. Please understand that this handbook is just one of the many resources available to enhance your experience at Upstate.

As an Upstate student, you are encouraged to be a discerning individual, willing to invest the necessary effort to achieve your goals. It is important to be aware of your resources and to take responsibility for utilizing them effectively to manage your education during your time here. This handbook contains valuable information about academic requirements, university policies and procedures, student and faculty rights and responsibilities, and will provide the details needed to resolve many issues you may encounter.

Additionally, this publication includes the names and contact information of helpful individuals and offices, such as the staff in the Division of Student Affairs. Located in the Campus Activities Building (CAB) and Weiskotten Hall, the Student Affairs staff members are knowledgeable resources available to assist you. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us—we are here for you!

I wish you all the best for a productive and enjoyable academic year.

Sincerely,

Robert F. Ruiz
Interim Vice President for Educational Services and
