The goal of the Upstate Strategic Plan is to achieve Upstate's vision to be the leading regional academic medical center in the nation. When the Strategic Plan launched in January 2010, the effort was the result of a nearly three-year 'Engaging Excellence' process that drew upon the ideas and energy of hundreds of people—employees, faulty, students, patients, volunteers, and affiliated members of the community. The process identified five goals as key to the institution's success.

The Upstate Strategic Plan Annual Report Card details the strategies and metrics that measure progress for the five main goals of the Strategic Plan. The data collection and review is an ongoing process designed to continually assess our operations and outcomes for quality, relevance, and progress towards the main goals. If identified as appropriate, revisions will be made annually to the strategies and metrics to insure ongoing congruence with institutional goals. In addition to the data for each goal, the Annual Report Card identifies 'Other Achievements' which detail significant milestones that would not necessarily be captured by the data alone.

The plan provides a roadmap for Upstate's achievements at all levels. Each person and department should be able to find solid ways to contribute to our goals and connection to their role within the institution. Collectively, these successes will contribute to Upstate's presence in the region, nation and the world.
