Named after Rev. Jerry Shave, Protestant Chaplain at Upstate for 41 years, this annual conference in June is designed for all persons interested and involved in pastoral ministry – lay and ordained. The goal of Clergy Day is to utilize the latest technology and resources of Upstate to introduce the community to new aspects of effective ministry. Skills learned translate to everyday pastoral situations and strengthen one's pastoral care. Past presentations have been on spirituality of children and how to minister to suicidal patients. Peer Consultation Groups

Department of Spiritual Care offers monthly peer groups for Spiritual Care volunteers, Assistant Chaplains, and a Clinical Pastoral Consultation group for area chaplains who have 4 or more Clinical Pastoral Education units and are eligible for board certification as a chaplain. In these groups, peers find collegiality and can offer one another support and confrontation for pastoral growth through clinical presentations and reflection.

Certified Music Practitioner Program

Began Upstate in March of 2012. The Music for Healing and Transition Program, Inc. is a national education certification program preparing musicians and singers to provide live therapeutic music at the bedside of patients. Therapeutic music has been shown to reduce blood pressure, stabilize heart rate and decrease muscular tension and provide comfort at the end of life. More information...
