We are Here for You

When Upstate Golisano Childrens Hospital opened in 2009, it became the essential link for children and families across Central New York who were faced with illness and injury, and specialized health needs. While most patients have been well served, it is recognized that improvements are necessary to enhance the health and life outcomes for children with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD).

The new Golisano Center for Special Needs is poised to meet the challenges that children with I/DD and their families face through enhanced clinical care, education, basic research, and initiatives to promote inclusion and community building. It will provide comprehensive, coordinated and scientifically based medical and behavioral care for children and adolescents.

Letter from the Director - Henry Roane, Ph.D.

Many New York State programs provide diagnostic services to individuals with developmental or intellectual disabilities. Very few, however, can provide follow-up treatment services for these individuals once diagnosed. The Golisano Center for Special Needs (GCSN) is a unique center that can provide care to individuals diagnosed with developmental or intellectual disabilities, or individuals who require specialized care, from childhood to early adulthood.

We have a unique mixture of multidisciplinary services and programs designed to provide meaningful care to each individual. Currently, the GCSN makes up eight departments that offer a wide range of clinical services to people within this population.
