Letter from the Director

Many New York State programs provide diagnostic services to individuals with developmental or intellectual disabilities. Very few, however, can provide follow-up treatment services for these individuals once diagnosed. The Golisano Center for Special Needs (GCSN) is a unique center that can provide care to individuals diagnosed with developmental or intellectual disabilities, or individuals who require specialized care, from childhood to early adulthood.

We have a unique mixture of multidisciplinary services and programs designed to provide meaningful care to each individual. Currently, the GCSN makes up eight departments that offer a wide range of clinical services to people within this population. Furthermore, the GCSN also has an integrated multidisciplinary education program committed to teaching and training future healthcare professionals who might provide similar specialized care to others in our community. We are also committed to conducting both basic and applied research relating to the prevention and treatment of developmental disabilities and other pervasive disorders. We believe that our research commitments will enhance the healthcare field and lead to others' ability to provide the best care possible to every individual.

As of 2021, there are no other facilities within a 5-hour radius that provides the vast number of services and educational opportunities that the GCSN provides. Our goal is to improve the quality of life for each individual that we serve. We are proud to help each person who walks through our doors and look forward to working with and being a resource for each individual and their family.

Sincerely,

Henry S. Roane, Ph.D.
