Fall safety tips to enjoy the season

Fall day

Fall is here in Upstate New York! A beautiful time of year and a good time to remember these items to stay safe, prevent poison, and take in the changing of the leaves:

  • As it gets cooler, make sure your heating system is running smoothly. Have fuel-burning appliances checked by a professional
  • Put new batteries in carbon monoxide detectors. Carbon monoxide dangers increase during the fall and winter
  • Outdoorsmen who camp should avoid using heating devices in enclosed spaces
  • Make sure to place mouse/rat poisons and ant traps where young children and pets can’t get to them
  • Keep all medicine stored in original containers, locked up and out of sight of young kids
  • Winter formulations of windshield washer fluid and antifreeze are very toxic. Store out of reach of young children and pets
