Musculoskeletal

Musculoskeletal medicine is integrated within the IRF and skilled nursing facility rehabilitation experiences and the VA SCI/D Center rotations, as well as in defined outpatient settings.

PGY-2s are expected to fully evaluate the medical and rehabilitation needs of the patients referred for outpatient physiatric evaluations at our outpatient facilities at Fly Road, Township 5, and Community Hospital Outpatient Center. The 1:1 resident-to-attending ratio promotes a better hands on learning environment.

Residents learn to efficiently review all available medical tests and radiological studies prior to prescribing needed interventions including a rehabilitation or therapy program and prescriptions for mobility aids such as walkers, canes, orthotics, and prosthetics. Residents will gain experience in the different types of therapeutic prescriptions (e.g., PT, OT, SLP, aquatic therapy, vestibular therapy) or referrals for continued rehabilitative care.
