Duty Hours
In 1989, the New York State legislature mandated specific regulations regarding work schedules for medical residents. The Department of ObGyn follows NYSDOH 405 regulations and ACGME
Common Program Requirements, which include:
- 24 hours off per week not averaged
- A maximum of 80 hours per week averaged over 4 weeks
- Maximum on-duty time of 24 hours
- 8 hours off between scheduled clinical work/educational periods
Our rotation, call, and vacation schedules were developed to integrate the regulations of both the SUNY Guidelines and the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Our schedules strive to provide a comprehensive educational experience and maintain a balanced and equitable program for all residents.
