Clark Burn Center - 6E

The Clark Burn Center is a six-bed Intensive Care Unit that is a regional referral center providing state-of-the-art burn care. The Clark Burn Center serves over 27 counties from as far north as the St. Lawrence River to the southern borders of New York state and from Rochester to Vermont, including the northern areas of Pennsylvania and parts of Canada.

The Center cares for both adult and pediatric patients in inpatient and outpatient settings. The burn team includes nurses, attending physicians, physician assistant, burn technicians, physical, occupational and respiratory therapists, dietitians, social workers, and case managers, as well as attending and resident physicians. The Center also provides education to the public and health care providers.

Conditions Treated

  • Burns (thermal, chemical, electrical, and radiation)
  • Frostbite
  • Inhalation injury
  • Skin problems (epidermolysis bullosa, toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN), necrotizing fascitis, cutaneous diseases)
  • Post-operative surgical patients as boarders. (Burn patients have bed priority; post-operative patients must satisfy strict admission criteria)

Special Treatment Modalities

  • Specialized wound care (biological and synthetic dressings)
  • Hemodynamic cardiac and pressure monitoring (BP, pulse, respiration, EKG monitoring)
  • Hydrotherapy treatment (special cleansing tubs)
  • Dialysis/hemofiltration (blood purification)
  • Conscious sedation (patient is awake and alert but highly medicated to minimize pain)
  • Full-thickness and partial-thickness skin grafting
  • Burn scar reconstruction
  • Customized burn garments
  • Individualized managed plans of care
