Family Birth Center
Our Community Campus is the first of its kind at Upstate, housing the Jim and Dede Walsh Family Birthing Center. Our labor and delivery and 2 East-Gynecology/Post-Partum/Nursery floors are equipped to follow a woman through antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, intraoperative, post-operative and newborn care.

The Birthing Center nurses triage expectant mothers and determine the necessity of admission. Once admitted, a mother can expect the utmost comfort in our state of the art center. Our team offers one- on- one nursing care that is both meticulous and personal. Our nurses are prepared to handle routine as well as complicated deliveries.
Many of our nurses float to the post-partum and GYN floor guaranteeing continuum of care. Our center includes:
- 3 triage rooms for evaluation
- 6 spa- like private labor, delivery, and recovery suites
- 2 surgical delivery rooms for obstetric complications and Cesarean deliveries
- Level I Nursery
- 2 East- Post Partum and Gynecology
2 East is located adjacent to our Labor and Delivery Unit, which allows for ease of access. Each of our 18 rooms is private and includes room for families to stay together post-partum. Our nurses provide care to a range of patients including post-partum mothers, gynecological needs, and post-op OB/GYN surgeries.
Collaboration
Our care is patient and family centered as stated in our Innovative Care Model, Patients First. Our nurses work in collaboration with physicians, anesthesiologists, Advanced practice nurses including midwives, social work, case managers, and other ancillary services to ensure a woman's birthing experience and care is ideal. Our nurses are well educated in alternative options for women, with access to lactation counselors, hydrotherapy, and doulas.
