Dr. Saravanan Thangamani, director of Upstate’s new Vector Biocontainment Lab, toured reporters and photographers through the new lab March 12, following an opening event with President Mantosh Dewan and SUNY Chancellor Malatras. The new vector lab will allow Upstate to research coronavirus, Lyme disease, Zika and more. A BSL-3 lab, the facility has advanced CDC-level biosafety precautions in place. The facility is funded by a NY SUNY 2020 Challenge Grant.
