The Center in Syracuse is one of seven centers in the NY statewide Network, which is headquartered at Mount Sinai Icahn School of Medicine. The grant funds activities related to preventing harm to children from environmental hazards. The second grant on which the coordinator would work funds the Central/Eastern NY Lead Poisoning Resource Center (LPRC). The Grant Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating the bulk of the CEHC grant activities in five domains: consultation/guidance, education/training, community outreach, clinical services, and public health marketing. The primary activities will include outreach to community organizations and clinical practices and coordination of any grant-related community response to environmental hazards. This will include the use of websites and social media to spread the message. In addition, the coordinator will be involved in managing and tracking asthma prevention and treatment efforts in our pediatric clinic. Educational activities will include recruiting faculty and students and coordination of educational content for in-person and remote teaching sessions. The coordinator will also be responsible for tracking grant activities and drafting quarterly reports. For the LPRC, the coordinator will perform very similar functions, especially in regards to community and clinical outreach. In addition, the coordinator will help to communicate with physicians and county health departments regarding children with elevated lead levels in our 14-county region (when the primary lead poisoning grant coordinator is not available). Also included are aspects of the child’s environment that can undermine their sense of safety, stability, and bonding, such as growing up in a household with substance use problems, mental health problems, or instability due to parental separation or household members being in jail or prison. ACEs are linked to chronic health problems, mental illness, and substance use problems in adulthood. ACEs can also negatively impact education, job opportunities, and earning potential. However, ACEs can be prevented. Under the guidance of a mentor, the participant will be trained to: triage external and internal requests to review content related to the identification, prevention, and response to ACEs; learn about ACEs and its connection to other injury topic areas including substance use and suicides; Collaborate with scientists and subject matter experts across the Center to identify points of contacts for ACEs requests Review ACEs content and provide edits as needed. Employer: CDC Department: Center for Surveillance, Epidemiology, and Laboratory Services (CSELS) Location: Atlanta, Georgia Application Deadline: January 1, 2022 Under the guidance of a mentor, the research participants will learn how to conduct activities focused on enhancing the leadership and data science workforce capacity at CDC. The participants will have the opportunity to collaborate directly within the leadership or data science aspects of the branch, providing programmatic support on all aspects of the fellowship implementation, including health communication and project management. Additionally, the fellows may be involved in the following training activities: Design, evaluate and improve upon methods used to collect, process, analyze and integrate new and existing data sources that are managed by the branch; Learn to utilize project management software to manage program data from a variety of data sources; Learn resource needs/utilization for training programs; Help identify novel data sources and analytic tools, including associated strengths and weaknesses; Contribute to the development of Standard Operating Procedures for health communications as needed for revised or new processes; Participate in other projects within the branch as needed related to health communications/project management to reporting/communication needs; Contribute to the development of dashboards and reports to support program management. The qualified candidate should have received a bachelor's or master's degree in one of the relevant fields, or be currently pursuing one of the degrees with completion by the end of December 2021. Degree must have been received within the past five years.
