Employer: Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Department: Division of Violence Prevention (DVP) in the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (NCIPC) Location: Atlanta, Georgia Application Deadline: January 14, 2022 The Division of Violence Prevention (DVP) in the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (NCIPC) at the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, GA is seeking candidates for an Oak Ridge Research Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) Fellowship. Through its programs and initiatives, DVP works with national organizations, state and local health agencies, and other partners to develop, implement, and promote effective violence prevention strategies. This position is in DVP’s Prevention Practice and Translation Branch (PPTB). The branch oversees DVP’s programs and provides program evaluation support and training and technical assistance. It also promotes the dissemination of science and practice-based evidence through translation products. The fellow will work under the mentorship of the Associate Chief of Program (ACP) in the Office of the Branch Chief. The ACP coordinates programmatic activities in the branch to increase the impact and effectiveness of PPTB programs and facilitates the application of science to practice through cross-program evaluation. The ACP also coordinates cross-branch reporting activities, facilitates an evaluation community of practice and works to streamline and standardize evaluation practices and processes across the branch, including the online data collection system designed to monitor and evaluate Notice of Funding Opportunities (NOFO) activities of funded recipients. Currently, we have five programs that address sexual, intimate partner, youth and teen dating violence, as well as child maltreatment and other adverse childhood experiences. The ACP works directly with program teams to apply science to practice through translation materials and technical assistance and disseminates program evaluation findings through various communication channels. Project Description The fellow will support the ACP to coordinate programmatic activities and will work directly with the ACP to conduct the cross-program evaluation activities to assess the effectiveness of PPTB programs. This includes developing and implementing an evaluation plan (and logic model), developing a crosswalk of data elements, outcomes and indicators across PPTB programs, managing and analyzing data and developing translation and dissemination products. The fellow will be expected to bring together multiple streams of information to develop evaluation findings. The fellow will be mentored by the ACP but will have an opportunity to work with other program staff including project and evaluation officers. Specific Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assist with designing and implementing cross-program evaluation of PPTB programs, including collecting, extracting, managing and synthesizing program data from the DVP Partners Portal (online data collection system), visualizing and disseminating evaluation findings
- Develop a crosswalk of data elements, outcomes and indicators across PPTB programs
- Participate in standardizing evaluation activities in the branch
- Coordinate and develop materials for translation and dissemination
- Provide support and help to facilitate the evaluation community of practice activities
- Communicate with program staff, subject matter experts, and partners to implement the cross-program evaluation
- Support the ACP’s efforts to integrate findings in recipient resources and translation products
- Present findings to internal and external audiences
This program, administered by Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education, was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and CDC. The appointment is full time at CDC in the Atlanta, Georgia area. The initial appointment is for two years but may be renewed upon recommendation of CDC and contingent upon availability of funds. The participant will receive a monthly stipend depending upon educational level and experience. Health insurance coverage is required and available through ORISE. Participants do not become employees of CDC or ORISE, there are no fringe benefits paid, and moving expenses are not authorized.
