Chair, Medical Executive Committee

Today’s Minute

July 24, 2024

Upstate has partnered with Vizient to improve quality metrics selected by hospital leadership. As part of this project, a multi-factorial approach has been implemented to reduce central line utilization and improve central line care and maintenance.

Pharmacy has created a dashboard that includes active central lines and current medication orders. Pharmacy personnel intend to review all central lines for pharmaceutical necessity starting this month. If a line is identified that is not pharmaceutically necessary, pharmacy will communicate with providers via Epic chat.

Attention: Provider Action Required

  • Evaluate the necessity of central lines.
  • If a central line is identified without pharmaceutical need, please review the line for possible removal if it is not otherwise clinically necessary.

Please reach out to Greg Cwikla with any questions. We appreciate your continued collaboration.
