MEC Minute

From Stephen Thomas, MD
Chair, Medical Executive Committee

Today’s Minute

July 18, 2024

Team Upstate:

COVID-19 infections are on the rise nationally and regionally.

We have seen a gradual increase in the percent of positive COVID-19 tests, increases in hospital admissions, and risk of COVID-19 being acquired in the hospital.

Potential reasons for these trends include waning community level immunity from past infections and vaccination, continued mutations making the circulating viruses less susceptible to existing immunity, and the hot weather and summer activities increasing the density of people indoors and at events.

If patients are known to be positive for COVID-19 or being evaluated for potential infection, remember that we are expected to follow the recommendations for using enhanced airborne PPE. Protect yourself, your patients, and your colleagues.

Thanks for reading,

Stephen
