WELCOME BACK: The largest returning class of The Norton College of Medicine Reunion this year was the Class of 1984. The reunion, held Sept. 20 and 21, brought back classes from 1954, 1959, 1964, 1969, 1974, 1979, 1984, 1989, 1994, 1999, 2004, 2009 and 2014. In addition to alumni awards, nearly $900,000 in scholarships were awarded to students.

DECON DRILL: Upstate University Hospital employees participate in a decontamination drill. The aim of the exercise was to test the capability of Upstate staff to recognize and react to a certain number of patients arriving to the Emergency Department who are contaminated with a chemical substance.

RECHARGE ROOM READY: New immersive, biophilic private spaces are now available at Room 2606 Upstate University Hospital for staff and students in need of a restorative boost or moment of calmness. The Recharge Rooms are available to employees 24/7 and include soothing music, scent, immersive visuals, lighting, and sound. Upstate Community Hospital is expected to open a Recharge Room later this fall.

RESEARCH RETREAT: Students and faculty from the College of Graduate Studies attended the college’s annual Biomedical Sciences Retreat Sept. 10 to hear lectures on studies from dengue to fetal alcohol disorders, and view dozens of poster presentations.

SLIME DAY: Cotton candy slime, anyone? One of the activities highlighting Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month was making your own slime, courtesy of the Waters Center for Children’s Cancer and Blood Disorders.

DONATE LIFE: Brianna George raises the Donate Life flag outside Upstate University Hospital in memory of her late brother Lucas, who he died July 12. Lucas’s family’s wish that Lucas would be an organ donor. The Upstate Donor Council holds flag-raising ceremonies throughout the year to honor organ donors and their families.
