  • WELCOME: Upstate President Dr Mantosh Dewan greets Dr Cynthia Taub, the Edward C. Reifenstein Professor of Medicine and chair of the Department of Medicine; and Dr Jonathan Miller, chair of the Department of Neurosurgery. Both Taub and Miller began their leadership roles at Upstate recently. Taub previously served at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and Miller at Case Western Reserve University.

  • PERMANENT DECON SYSTEM INSTALLED: Emergency Management Director Christopher Dunham discusses the new decontamination curtain installed outside the Upstate Emergency Department. The decon curtain system provides a place where patients involved in a contamination incident can shower and be examined by health care professionals before entering the ED. Prior to the installation, Upstate had a portable decontamination tent that would be used in such incidents.

  •   CHAPLAINS END SUMMER INTERNSHIP: Upstate 2023 chaplain interns each completed more than 400 hours of clinical pastoral training this summer providing spiritual care to patients, families and Upstate employees.   • VIP ON CAMPUS: Upstate Nursing Director Michelle Zoanetti leads State Health Commissioner James McDonald, MD, and members of his staff on a tour of the Upstate University Hospital Emergency Department. While in Central New York, McDonald visited the New York State Fair, where he met with Upstate medical staff and a medical student at the State Fair Infirmary. He also participated in a roundtable discussion about the local health care system with the leadership from area hospitals. The visit was the latest in a series of regional tours by the commissioner, with plans to continue visiting communities around the state to learn about the public health challenges and opportunities across New York.

More than 100 screenings were performed and over 1000 pairs of earplugs were passed out to fairgoers. This project was supported by the 2023 Cancer Prevention Community Service Award by the American Head and Neck Society and The Upstate Foundation Cancer Center Award.
