HERE’S THE SCOOP: Team Upstate celebrated its 20th anniversary of community service with an ice cream party attended by many.

COMMENCEMENT SPEAKER: Upstate Medical University President Dr Mantosh Dewan, who also is a SUNY Distinguished Service Professor, is introduced by SUNY Downstate President Dr. Wayne J Riley during SUNY Downstate’s Commencement May 11. Dewan was the Commencement speaker and also received the 2023 SUNY Downstate’s President’s Award.

BALDWIN HONOR: Beth Baldwin, second from left, is honored by the Upstate Cancer Center with the creation of an oncology nurse award that will bear her name. The Beth Baldwin Oncology Nurse award will be presented annually. Taking part in the award announcement at the center’s recent research retreat are Distinguished Service Professor Emeritus Patricia J. Numann, MD; Thomas Vandermeer, MD, interim director; and Beth Baldwin’s brother Stephen.

COMMENCEMENT VIP: Upstate honorary degree recipient and Commencement speaker Patrick O. Brown, MD, PhD, takes part in the faculty procession with Norton College of Medicine Dean Lawrence Chin, MD, during Commencement May 7. Brown is chief visionary officer of Impossible Foods, Inc., founder and president of the Impossible Foundation and professor emeritus at Stanford University.

GOING GREEN: Weiskotten Hall courtyard is bathed in green in support of Lyme Disease Awareness Month.
