SEASONAL COLORS: This pink 10-foot tree stands in the Upstate Cancer Center atrium, a gift from Janet and Doug Burman in gratitude for the excellent care received at Upstate. The pink tree a reminder of the importance of regular breast cancer screenings for early detection and better outcomes.

GALA GATHERING: Among the more than 600 people at the Upstate Gala, are employees of The Department of Emergency. This year’s beneficiary was the Department of Emergency Medicine, and the Upstate Foundation was pleased to announce that mobile ultrasound equipment had already been purchased and are in use in both the downtown and pediatric emergency departments. Thank you to Nascentia Health, The Sutton Companies and many other generous corporate partners, as well as Upstate clinical departments including Radiation Oncology for their continued support.

LUNG LOOK: Upstate employees walk through a giant inflatable lung in the lobby of the Upstate Cancer Center. The lung was on site to commemorate Nov. 21 as the Great American Smokeout. While smoking rates have declined, lung cancer continues to be the leading cause of cancer death in the U.S.

GLOWING GREEN: The Onondaga County War Memorial goes green to recognize Injury Prevention Day. Other buildings around the county glowed green as well in support of the Upstate Trauma team’s efforts at keeping individuals safe.

UKRAINE RETURN: Upstate physicians Dmitriy Nikolavsky, MD, (seated left), and Gennady Bratslavsky, MD, speak to reporters after having just returned from a brief stay in Ukraine, where they performed numerous urologic surgeries in the midst of sustained bombardments that had air raid sirens blaring throughout the day.
