  • GALA GATHERING: Among the more than 600 people at the Upstate Gala, are employees of The Department of Emergency. This year’s beneficiary was the Department of Emergency Medicine, and the Upstate Foundation was pleased to announce that mobile ultrasound equipment had already been purchased and are in use in both the downtown and pediatric emergency departments. Thank you to Nascentia Health, The Sutton Companies and many other generous corporate partners, as well as Upstate clinical departments including Radiation Oncology for their continued support.

  • LUNG LOOK: Upstate employees walk through a giant inflatable lung in the lobby of the Upstate Cancer Center. The lung was on site to commemorate Nov. 21 as the Great American Smokeout. While smoking rates have declined, lung cancer continues to be the leading cause of cancer death in the U.S.

  • GLOWING GREEN: The Onondaga County War Memorial goes green to recognize Injury Prevention Day. Other buildings around the county glowed green as well in support of the Upstate Trauma team’s efforts at keeping individuals safe.

  • UKRAINE RETURN: Upstate physicians Dmitriy Nikolavsky, MD, (seated left), and Gennady Bratslavsky, MD, speak to reporters after having just returned from a brief stay in Ukraine, where they performed numerous urologic surgeries in the midst of sustained bombardments that had air raid sirens blaring throughout the day.

  •  CELEBRATING ALUMNI EXCELLENCE: The Health Professions Alumni Association in conjunction with the Upstate Foundation and the College of Health Professions recently honored six graduates as part of the inaugural Distinguished Alumni Ceremony. Inductees into the inaugural class include, from left, Alfred Stammers, MSA, (Emeritus) ’87; Joseph Sorbello, MSEd, RT, RRT, ’75 & ’77; Craig Hansen, AAS, BS ’88; Maryann Roefaro, MS, MT, SM ’88; and Shelley Mishoe, PhD, RRT, ’75 & ’77. Unable to attend was John Barr, BS-PT, MA, PhD,  The honorees each have a plaque recognizing their achievements on the distinguished alumni wall located on the first floor of Silverman Hall.
