SURVIVORS HONORED: The Upstate Cancer Center will celebrate survivorship at its National Cancer Survivors Day event with the Syracuse Mets June 6 at NBT Bank Stadium. A highlight of the event is the Survivors Parade inside the stadium just before first pitch is thrown, which this year will feature a father and son survivors and an 11-year old local athlete. More than 1,000 survivors and their guests are expected to attend.

Golisano has been a champion for children in CNY. In recognition of his beneficence, various buildings and services dedicated to pediatric care on the Upstate campus bear his name, most notably Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital.

COFFEE CASH: 7 Brew Coffee celebrated its opening in North Syracuse this week with a $10,000 donation to Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital. Store officials say the donation is part of the company’s Caffeine for a Cause campaign, which raises money from patrons using the drive through. Upstate Foundation officials said they were grateful for this new partnership.

TRAUMA SPOTLIGHT: Officials from the Upstate Trauma Center took center stage at the Upstate Trauma Fest this week. Representatives from partners, such as the Syracuse Fire Department, LifeNet, University Police and Safe Kids were on hand to offer tips to keep summer safe. June, July and August are among the busiest months for the Upstate’s Level 1 Trauma Center.

UNITED FOR MOMS: Emerging Leaders United Upstate chapter members, from left Tara Pinkerton, Sarah Trapani and Veronica Farrell, with goods collected for the United for Moms drive, conducted in partnership with the United Way of Central New York. Upstate employees dropped off toiletries at collection boxes throughout Upstate that filled more than 200 gift bags distributed by various agencies, including Chadwick Residence, Vera House, Huntington Family Centers and others.

MAY THE FOURTH BE WITH YOU: An annual tradition around May 4 is the visit of Star Wars characters to Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital, which brings smiles to patients and staff alike. The visit is made possible by the 501st Legion’s Garrison Excelsior.

GRAD SELFIE: Smiles and selfies were commonplace during Upstate Medical University’s Commencement May 4. Four hundred and six degrees and certificates were handed out during ceremonies at the SRC Arena.

More than 500 friends and family members filled Hendricks Chapel for the service.

DONOR APPRECIATION: As part of April’s Donate Life Month, the Upstate Transplant Center held its Third Annual Living Donor Appreciation Luncheon at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Syracuse. More than 100 people attended, including 25 kidney donors who were honored for giving of themselves to improve the lives of others.
