Upstate Community Hospital opens new interventional radiology suite

Upstate Community Hospital has opened a new interventional radiology (IR) suite. The new suite, located in Room 1330, features a spacious procedure room, control room and an IR recovery area with patient pre-and post-holding bays and a fully integrated patient monitoring system.

As part of this project, all imaging equipment in two X-ray rooms has been replaced and upgraded.

“This suite will allow highly subspecialized interventional radiology services to be offered to the local community closer to home, offering convenient, safe, cutting-edge care and hopefully will keep most of their care under one roof,” said Arabinda Choudhary, MD, MBA, chair of Radiology. “We will bring advanced interventional care to the patient when and where they need it.”

The Upstate Community IR suite will perform interventional radiology procedures similar to those offered at Upstate University Hospital, including peripheral vascular procedures requiring angioplasty and stenting, inferior vena cava filter placement, fistulograms, dialysis catheter exchange or insertion, renal or mesenteric stenting, and embolizations.

The procedures are guided by imaging to ensure precision and minimize risk, allowing faster recovery times than traditional surgeries.

Instrumental in bringing this to fruition is Chief Operating Officer Marylin Galimi, Tony Presutto, associate director Upstate Community Hospital Radiology and from Design & Construction Zach Hurd, James Lang and Zekrullah Ahmady.

Choudhary and Tomas Mujo, DO, will oversee the operation of the IR suite at Community.
