With a staff of more than 12,000, Upstate is Central New York’s largest employer. ‘Best Places to Work in IT’ is a global program and rankings represent locations worldwide.
In addition to Upstate, other major health care institutions on earning a spot on the list include Cedars Sinai, Johns Hopkins Medicine and New York Presbyterian Hospital.

Upstate also ranked third in the top ten companies for career development, highlighting its commitment to investing in IT employees to help them grow their skills and careers. Creating a great place for IT professionals to work takes more than offering competitive salaries and benefits. It means making a commitment to employees’ well-being and career growth, providing challenging work, supporting a diverse workforce, and fostering a positive and inclusive culture.
"Being recognized as one of the Best Places to Work in IT is a testament to our commitment of fostering an environment where innovation, collaboration, and career growth thrive,” said Mark Zeman, Upstate’s chief information officer at Upstate Medical University. “Our talented staff continually push the boundaries of technology, creating solutions that improve the quality, efficiency, and accessibility of healthcare for our patients. This recognition highlights our commitment to a workplace that not only values technical excellence but also supports our shared mission to make a meaningful difference in the lives of patients, students and researchers every day."
Zeman, himself, was honored this year, earning a spot this year on Becker’s Healthcare CIOs to Know list for his exceptional leadership and innovative contributions to the field of healthcare information technology.
