Radiation oncologist Anna Shapiro, MD, will lead Upstate’s Walk with a Doc outing Oct. 12
Anna Shapiro, MD, associate professor of radiation oncology, will lead Upstate’s Walk with a Doc outing Oct. 12.
Shapiro, who also serves as radiation oncologist with the Upstate Cancer Center, will offer a brief chat on the role of exercise in breast cancer before starting the walk. Shapiro’s appearance is especially timely as October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Walk with a Doc steps off at 9 a.m. at Onondaga Lake Park, 6700 Onondaga Lake Parkway. Participants should meet at the Skatepark. Participants can travel at their own pace and distance while getting to know each other and the doctor.
Walk with a Doc is a nonprofit started in 2005 by Dr. David Sabgir, a cardiologist in Columbus, Ohio. Initially aimed at helping patients get more physical activity, the program's benefits go far beyond a simple walk. The opportunity to build friendships within the community, spend time in nature, and receive free health education in a relaxed setting is an all-in-one prescription for better health. There are more than 500 WWAD chapters around the world.
Previous Walk with a Doc outings have been hosted by Kaushal Nanavati, MD; Jarrod Bagatell, MD; Gloria Morris, MD; and Leslie Kohman, MD.
The next Walk with a Doc is set for Nov. 9. The event is free and open to the public. Register here.
