Genetics counselor to lead Upstate’s Walk with a Doc outing July 13

Gloria Morris, MD, PhD, a genetics counselor at Upstate Medical University, will be the featured physician in Upstate’s special Walk with a Doc outing Saturday, July 13.

Walk with a Doc steps off at 9 a.m. at Onondaga Lake Park. Participants should meet the Skatepark.

Morris will offer a brief talk before leading the walk, where participants can travel at their own pace and distance while getting to know each other and the doctor.

At Upstate, Morris, who is also an associate professor of medicine, provides comprehensive hereditary cancer risk assessments. Morris is affiliated with the Upstate Cancer Center’s Breast Care Program, Genetics Program and the Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery Program.

Walk with a Doc is a nonprofit that was started in 2005 by Dr. David Sabgir, a cardiologist in Columbus, Ohio. Initially aimed at helping patients get more physical activity, the program's benefits go far beyond a simple walk. The opportunity to build friendships within the community, spend time in nature, and receive free health education in a relaxed setting is an all-in-one prescription for better health. There are more than 500 WWAD chapters around the world.

Upstate’s inaugural Walk with a Doc outing was held June 8 with Jarrod Bagatell, MD.
