40th Anniversary Upstate Towsley Pro-Am celebrates record-breaking year

Earlier this summer 64 teams golfed through intense winds and intermittent rain as the Upstate Foundation’s 40th Anniversary Upstate Towsley Pro-Am teed-off at the Turning Stone Resort Casino. The weather did not dampen the spirits of sponsors and supporters who came together to raise more than $245,000, a record-breaking effort to commemorate the anniversary milestone.

“Tournament proceeds will support the extraordinary work done at the Clark Burn Center. The Clark burn team provides care to adult and pediatric burn patients with expertise and compassion, as patients and families often face long and painful journeys through treatment, rehabilitation and recovery,” said Julie Simms, senior director of development, Upstate Foundation.

In recognition of their volunteer work at the Clark Burn Center, three teams from the Syracuse Fire Department were sponsored by Joan Dolinak, MD, director of the Clark Burn Center, and Robert Cooney, MD, chair of the department of surgery. Tournament organizers also honored a team representing PGA Hope of CNY Veterans, a learn-to-golf program created by the Professional Golf Association to teach golf fundamentals to retired military members.

The Foundation will keep the clubs swinging as the Upstate Open tees off Aug. 8, again at Turning Stone, to support cancer research and pediatric and adult cancer care.
