Yifan Zheng, MD, joins Upstate’s thoracic surgery division

Yifan Zheng, MD has been named assistant professor of surgery at Upstate Medical University.

Zheng will join the Division of Thoracic Surgery and treat patients with a range of diseases of the chest, including lung cancer, esophageal cancer, mediastinal tumors as well as benign esophageal diseases, including achalasia, hiatal hernia and gastroesophageal reflux disease.

Before joining Upstate, Zheng completed a cardiothoracic surgery residency at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston and a postdoctoral research fellowship. She received an NIH National Research Service Award Fellowship for training in vascular surgery from Harvard Longwood Research.

She has presented nationally and internationally on lung cancer, mesothelioma and other areas of interest and has been published in two dozen peer-reviewed publications and book chapters.

Zheng earned her undergraduate degree with honors from Brown University and her medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine.
