Upstate raises $603,359 for Community Giving Campaign

Upstate Medical University raised $603,359 during recently its annual Community Giving Campaign, which ended last month. That’s the largest amount raised during a campaign since 2012.

Officials say 1,380 employees contributed to the campaign, which began in late August. The top agencies receiving support from the campaign are the United Way of Central New York, the Upstate Foundation, the Food Bank of Central New York, America’s Best Charities, Francis House and Hospice of Central New York and Hospice of the Finger Lakes. The campaign supports more than 100 agencies throughout Central New York.

Overall participation in the campaign rose 13 percent in 2023; attracting 325 new donor employees.

Upstate employees have donated more than $14 million through the campaign since 1986.

Campaign co-chairs were Lawrence Chin, MD, the Robert B. and Molly G. King Endowed Professor of Surgery and dean of Upstate’s Norton College of Medicine, and Robert Corona, DO, MBA, chief executive officer of Upstate University Hospital.

“We’re grateful to all the employees who were able to commit to give to this year’s campaign,” said Chin and Corona.  “We know that supporting the campaign is just one aspect of Upstate’s beneficent spirit, as many give of their time and talent throughout the year.”

Upstate employees from all departments, including the Research Foundation, MedBest Medical Management participated in the campaign.

Campaign Committee members include Zanette Howe, Katherine Beissner, PT, PhD, Mark Congel, Kelly Dolan, Amy Green, Devin Kerr, Katherine Magnarelli, Yowali Singh, Sarah Trapani, Nancy Prott, Meghann Sandak. Four ad hoc committee members are Tammy Blackburn, Leah Caldwell, Rebecca Janowski, and Becca Pesci.

Campaign nursing sub-committee members are Kathleen Berardi, Brenda Dano, Kelly Dolan, JoAnn Featherstone, Tonya Seckner, Yowali Singh, and Anne Snowdon.

Linda Veit, MPH, and Nancy Prott oversaw gifts for the Hamilton White, Elizabeth Blackwell, and Sarah Loguen societies.
