Health Professions Dean Katherine Beissner, PT, PhD, named a fellow of Association of Schools Advancing Health Professions

Katherine Beissner, PT, PhD, dean of the College of Health Professions at Upstate Medical University, has been named as a fellow of the Association of Schools Advancing Health Professions (ASAHP).

Beissner was one of four individuals honored as fellows last month at the ASAHP’s annual conference.

The fellows award recognizes ASAHP members who have contributed significantly to health professions as administrators, educators, clinicians, or researchers.

ASAHP President Craig R. Jackson, MSW, JD, FASAHP, dean of the School of Allied Health Professions at Loma Linda University, acknowledged the efforts of all award winners.

We are lucky to have committed leaders such as these within our institutions who are dedicated to improving the quality and accessibility of healthcare and health professions education for all,” he said.

Recently, Beissner has been instrumental in creating a pipeline for future students interested in pursuing careers in the health professions through the introduction of the Jump Into Healthcare program, which will offer its third program next summer.

Beissner joined Upstate Medical University’s College of Health Professions in 2015, serving in a variety of positions, including chair of the Department of Physical Therapy; she was named dean in 2017.

ASAHP is a national professional organization of 130 universities and employers focused on critical issues affecting health professions education. ASAHP’s mission is to advance health professions education and discovery through interprofessional collaboration, leadership, excellence, and innovation.
