Delivery of the first baby of the new year at Upstate Community General happens in the hospital parking garage
Parents Cassaundra Richardson and Twila Brantley welcomed their daughter—the first child born in 2023 at Upstate Community Hospital—not in the comforts of the Family Birth Center, but in the hospital’s parking garage.
Just after arriving at the hospital and realizing that Brantley was about the give birth, Richardson called the hospital’s Emergency Department to say they were having a baby—now. Within minutes, ED doctors and nurses arrived on the scene to ensure a safe delivery.
Richardson and Brantley thanked all the medical providers for their care in delivering a health baby girl, Cataleya Richardson, who was born at 12:17 a.m., weighing 7 pounds and measuring 19 inches.
