Nappi Beam signing

Beam-signing project underway for Upstate employees

A beam that will become part of the Nappi Wellness Institute, which is currently under construction across the street from Upstate Cancer Center, will be set up at various outpatient locations around campus for Upstate employees to sign.

“The beam signing is an opportunity for the Upstate family to really become a part of this important building that will reshape the way the ambulatory care is delivered,” said Nancy Daoust, EdD FACHE, LNHA, chief ambulatory officer.

The beam is in the lobby of the Upstate Cancer Center through July 23. The beam will travel to University Health Care Center July 26 and be set up outside the staff area near the loading dock for signatures from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Joslin Diabetes Center will host the beam July 29 for signatures from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Upstate broke ground on the Nappi building in February 2020. The 209,000 square-foot building will house an array of services, practices and programs, including primary care, geriatrics, radiology, laboratory services, behavioral health, family medicine, pediatrics and the Joslin Center for Diabetes (adults and pediatrics). The building will have several supportive ancillary services and a Transitions Clinic to ensure seamless post-acute follow-up for patients. An infusion center and urgent care center will also be in the facility. It will also provide a needed focus on brain health and will be a site for Alzheimer’s disease research and care. Its design will take advantage of integrated practice models where diverse medical services exist in a single setting.

Once the beam has completed its signing tour, it will be hoisted into place during a beam signing ceremony set for later this summer.

Construction on the building is slated to be completed in early 2023 with an opening shortly after.

Funding for the Nappi building comes from State Department of Health’s Capital Restructuring Financing Program and Essential Health Care Provider Support Program, matching bonds from the state and an $8 million naming gift from Sam and Carol Nappi.
