Two key appointments in hospital leadership announced

Upstate Medical University Interim President Mantosh Dewan, MD, announced two key appointments in Upstate University Hospital leadership, naming Robert Corona, DO, MBA, as chief executive officer, and Amy Tucker, MD, MHCM, as chief medical officer.

“Dr. Corona and Dr. Tucker have served with distinction throughout their careers and most recently in their interim positions,” Dewan said. “I am pleased to have them as part of the leadership team as we move forward.”

Corona, who has served as interim CEO since March 2018, said: “I am grateful for this opportunity and fully support Interim President Dewan’s appointment of Dr. Tucker as CMO. I look forward to continuing to work with her, other hospital officers and the Upstate and SUNY communities to lead Upstate University Hospital in its support of our university’s clinical, educational and research missions.”

At Upstate, Corona has led the development and implementation of the Upstate MIND (Medical Innovation and Novel Discovery) at the CNY Biotech and served as the John B. Corona founded Upstate’s telemedicine program while at Upstate in the 1990s. He also served as chief medical officer and vice president of Medical and Scientific Affairs at Welch Allyn Inc. in Skaneateles.

He subsequently performed clinical training including a rotating internship at Southeastern Medical Center in Miami, followed by training in neurology, anatomic pathology and neuropathology at Upstate, with a special fellowship in neuropathology at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology. He received his MBA from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He is board certified in anatomic pathology, neuropathology and clinical informatics by the American Board of Pathology and medical management and certified physician executive by the American College of Physician Executives.
